Backseat Survival! - Kids Car Caddy

Each and every time we leave the house Connor insists on taking toys with him. He went through a stage were Legos were the item of choice. Do you know how quickly Legos can disappear in a car seat or backseat of a vehicle? Odds are once they are dropped they are as good as gone. On Monday I spent nearly 45 minutes cleaning my car, removing all the cups, tissues and toys that have collected over the course of the last 4 months (which was the last time I tidied up). After removing 6 Legos from under Connor's seat, I figured it was time to find a solution to our car toy needs. Instead of bringing a new toy into the car each time we leave, I thought what if he had a caddy filled with items that would keep him busy while we drive to and from? Insert my quick and easy solution of a kids car caddy.

I was on a mission to find items that couldn't disappear between seats or under the car seat itself. Another must was things that don't cause a mess either. I stopped at the Dollar Tree and for $7 I have a kit that will (hopefully) keep CJ entertained for a bit. I picked up some Toy Story board books, a coloring book and crayons, 2 Hot Wheels and a notebook. I added the pencil and put the crayons in an easy to open zip lock bag. I asked Connor if he liked it and he replied "no more messes to clean up!". That's my boy.

We can add new items as we find them. Connor asked to put his extra Batmans in there and I agreed those would be okay. His request actually provided me with the idea to use any small toys that he has double of as car toys. This could also be a great home for toys that he gets in the kids meals from Chickfila or McDonald's. The idea is to have a place for everything and to keep toys with small pieces out of my car. I really would like to think this will solve our problem of my back seat looking like a toy store exploded in it. A mom can hope right?

How do you keep your little ones entertained on car rides? We usually aren't in the car more than 20 minutes at a time yet Connor requires entertainment. I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions.
