Summer Reading Challenge :: Check-in #2

Today, Liz, Courtney and some of my favorite bloggers are going to share what our little ones have been reading this Summer. This part 2 of our of 4 part Summer reading challenge and giveaway. For more details on how you can join and enter to win, visit our announcement post which can be found HERE.

Connor and I have been working hard this summer on reading more and finding new favorites. First up is our reading challenge list and the books we've read so far according to the themes provided:

We have just 2 more books to hit our 12 book goal for the Summer Reading Challenge. A couple other books we've read that don't really fit into a theme are So Many Days and Kiss Kiss Yuck Yuck. Since we started potty training earlier this month, we also read The Frog Who Lost His Underpants.

Along with this reading challenge, I created a toddler approved reading list and am so happy to share that we read every single book on that list! Here are the books we've read over the last month or so:

Llama, Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney
Planting a Rainbow by Lois Elhert
Chicken said "Cluck!" by Judyann Ackerman Grant
My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall
Shape by Shape by Suse MacDonald
Sheep on a Ship by Nancy Shaw
Bunny Money by Rosemary Wells
The Napping House by Audrey Wood
I Stink! by Kate McMullan

One of our favorites from this round of reading was Shape by Shape. Connor would ask to read it 2-3 times a day and always before bedtime. Because he loved this book so much, I create a simple activity around the theme of the book: shapes.

These foam shapes were found in the Target $1 spot years ago and I bought them thinking they would come in handy one day. This week as that one day. The package includes different shapes, in multiple colors and sizes. I traced shapes on a piece of construction paper and we played matched the shape. We would go over color, if it was big or little, what letter the shape started with. Connor quickly caught on and this, along with reading Shape By Shape, has been a new go to activity this week.

We've had a blast finding new books and learning new concepts through our reading challenge. I never thought we would enjoy the challenge as much as we have. Visiting the library has been a fun new adventures as I'm always looking for the perfect book for our new theme. This week, we returned 12 books and walked out with 10 new reads. Connor's goal was to read 20 new books this summer and we've hit that goal plus some with 22 books total. It's safe to say, Connor J and I are total bookworms.
