Meet Megan :: The Adventures of Noble & Pond

It's that time of year again; everyone has love on the mind. But showing love doesn't mean that you are always showing romantic love. Romantic love is only one type of love that can be shown. Today, I want to go over 8 unique and inexpensive ways you can show love to everyone you know! The great thing about these options is that they can be used any time of the year. You aren't limited to a specific holiday or event by showing love in these ways. Let's get started!

8 Unique and Inexpensive Ways to Show Love

Take Notice of the Little Things Noticing the little things could be as simple as seeing that the dishes are piling up, or that there are muddy paw prints on the floor. Many of us are so busy that the little things tend to get neglected, like dusting, folding laundry, or shoveling the snow off of the porch. By proactively taking notice of these little things, and putting forth the effort to remedy the situation can be a wonderful way to show love to someone. Helping your parents, spouse, or friends to keep their home clean and functional is a great help to many.

Take a Hike Going for a walk with someone you love is a great way to get exercise. Plus, it's a wonderful opportunity to talk to them on a one on one basis. You will be able to spending time with someone meaningful to you, and you will both benefit from moving around a bit. These walks do not have to be long, in fact a simple 15 minute walk around the block can be just what your body needs to get the blood flowing, and give you both an extra shot of energy.

Learn What They Love The people you love all have different hobbies. Your spouse may enjoy hunting or fishing, your children may enjoy sports, your siblings may enjoy the theater or the arts, etc. Everyone has a different passion. When you learn about that person's passion, you are taking a genuine interest in them. They will feel loved and appreciated, and your heart will be full for helping them to feel that way. Offer to go hunting or fishing with your husband one morning, or see if your sister has any art projects that she would like to share with you.

Be Adventurous Being adventurous means stepping out of your comfort zone. To go along with the topic of "learning what they love", you may have to try something that you have never done before! But this doesn't mean you need to go skydiving or anything ridiculous like that (hopefully!). Trying something new, like a cooking class or a yoga session with someone you love can be a fun and interesting experience! Many towns and counties have community centers that focus on providing interesting activities for individuals of all ages. For example, at my community center there are opportunities for fitness, arts, childcare, language learning, and the culinary arts. There is bound to be something in your area that you haven't tried yet, and taking the leap to explore that activity can help you forge a lasting memory with someone you love.

Pin It Up There is a reason why we all love Pinterest. The global favorites board meant for sharing everything we can possibly imagine. A great way to spend time with someone you love can include scrolling the Pinterest Feed for DIY & Crafts, Recipes, or even just the Humor section. You will be able to find new ideas for crafting projects to complete together, a new recipe to try, or you can just scroll through the hilarious pictures of cats and dogs and laugh your buns off. Surprise Them at Work Surprising your friend, sibling, or spouse at work can bring great relief to a busy work day. The important thing to remember here is to bring relief, and not add to their already busy work day. If the timing isn't right, simply drop off the coffee or sandwich you brought for them, and graciously take your leave. Your understanding will be greatly appreciated, as well as the sandwich! If they do have a few moments to spend with you, they will be very happy to accept your company and take a quick break to refresh their senses. It's amazing what a little positive energy can do for a person.

Post a Picture to Their Facebook Wall Social media is an important part of our culture. Our electronic worlds meld with our actual realities on a seemingly hourly basis. Sometimes we may get notifications that we really could care less about (i.e. so and so's birthday, someone posted a political statement, this person is at the gym again), so it would be a nice surprise to see a little notification that personally affects us. By posting a cute picture to someone's Facebook wall, you are letting them know that you are thinking about them, and that they are important to you. It could be something as simple as a kitten on a tree branch that says "Hang In There!" or even a funny meme from a TV show or movie that you both enjoy. Just make sure that the image or message you are sharing is appropriate for everyone else they are friends with. It would be quite embarrassing if you posted a picture of your girlfriend taking jello shots at a bachelorette party, especially if they maintain a professional online presence. Always think before you share!

Keep a Journal of The Reasons Why You Love Them This is probably my favorite way to show love. By keeping a journal of the reasons why you love a person, you are filling your heart and your mind with love. A great way to keep track of the loving things they do every day is to purchase a daily calendar or planner from an office supply store. This way, you will be able to look back through the calendar and say, "Oh yes! I remember when she did that. She is such a sweetheart."It doesn't have to be an overly complex journal entry. I can be something as simple as, "Today, Nana brought me cookies," or "Eric cleaned the bathroom this morning." It doesn't have to be crazy! It just has to be simple and sweet! And don't forget to decorate the calendar with cute stickers or pretty markers to make it genuinely yours!
