Meet Becki :: bybmg

I'm Becky. Wife to Russ. Mama to Henry (4) and Wesley (1) and another boy on the way. I've been blogging for about 2 years over at bybmg. I'm a middle school teacher as my full-time gig. I write about what I wear, mommyhood, crafting, and thrifting among other things. I love sweets, all things pumpkin, sewing, thrifting (mostly for clothes), avoiding housework, and making life fun for my boys. I have a small Etsy shop where I sell things made from Toms flags and a few of my other creations. I love to meet and connect with other mamas online, so connect with me and say hello!

Dear Amateur Blogger,

You're doing great. You write because it's fun, and that's how it should be. If it ever turns not fun, you need to take a step back and evaluate. You started this because it was enjoyable and you thought you had something to share with the world.

It's ok that you don't get many page views. Every eye that does read your work is an important one if it's one or 1,000. If one person ties their scarf a new way, is uplifted, or gets something free because of a post, you've made a difference.

Your pictures may not be perfect. Your tutorials may not look professional (It's DIY, hello?!). Don't worry about it. You're improving yourself slowly.

You may not have any sponsorships. You may have been rejected from joining blogging networks.

You may never have post go viral. You may never get a bunch of followers. You may never have more than 10 comments on a blog post.

Keep trying. Keep posting. Keep smiling.

Someone needs your words. What you write matters.

  1. This is such a good reminder to keep things in perspective! I'm still a fairly new blogger and sometimes I worry about these things! Thanks for the inspiration!

  8. Well that is nice to hear. Last week I was definitely in a rut, this reminds me that I blog because it's fun and fulfilling, not for the page views or comment count.

  9. This is such a great reminder! Those of us just in our early months of blogging need to remember this more often to keep from getting discouraged.

  12. I love this! It so nice to get a reminder as to why I started blogging. Blogging can be challenging but there is a reason why I started doing it (& it's not for the number of page views). Thanks for sharing Becky and Stephanie!

    1. I have to remind myself of this all the time. I've had some friends just tell me that a think I posted really touched or helped them, and it brings me back to why I started.

    1. Yes - numbers can be such a thief of our joy. We're all in this to inspire and share.

  14. I love Becky and her posts! This is such great advice. It can be really easy to get caught up in the numbers game (how many pages views etc.), and that can really take the fun out of writing. This is such a great reminder!

    1. Aw, Thanks! It's so hard not to get caught up in it. I have to just stop looking at post views sometimes.

  15. This is such great advice!! I feel like so often people can get caught up in the numbers but like she said, you do this because you love it. Whether one person or one million read it, your words matter.
