Throwback Thursday - Fire Station Fun

In June, the Mom group I'm part of spend a couple hours at our local fire station. Have you ever taken a tour of a fire station before? Do it because even a 30 something Mom thinks it's pretty cool. While Connor could really care less about what the fire fighters were saying, he had a blast discovering the station and checking things out.

See that middle picture? How in the world do you manage this station under so much pressure? I forget to turn my oven off at least 2 nights a week when finished cooking dinner. But back to Connor, he had a blast. He earned himself a junior fire fighter badge and sat in the front of the truck like he owned that big red machine.

If climbing up into the truck was fun, "riding" the front of it was even cooler. He doesn't look to impressed but he loved every minute of it.

While touring the station, I learned so much. Obviously the little ones were asking too many questions, but the adults keep the questions coming and our tour guides were so helpful filling us in on what goes on inside the station from day to day. What I think impressed me the most was how clean the guys kept it. I don't know why I think a building housing men equals mess and chaos but that's what I imagined. I was pleasantly surprised for sure.

Spending the day with friends, especially Fernando, certainly put a smile on Connor's face. Along with learning so much from those that risk their lives to help ours, it was a wonderful way to help teach our little ones fire safety, the roles of public service employees and to watch our little ones discover the real world.

  2. The obsession with firetrucks in this house is not lost on me. We took a tour earlier this summer and I'm pretty sure my child could have stayed at the fire house all day long.

Can we take a minute to appreciate that GINORMOUS grin on Connor's face in the last picture? LOVE IT.

  7. I haven't taken a tour of a fire station since I was really little. We have a fire station here that got renovated into an art gallery, and it's so neat! This looks like a super fun day with the kids. I'm loving that last picture!
