oh hey! Friday - the Running edition

Next weekend, I'll be running my 2nd 5k (details on my first one can be found here). This one isn't your typical 5k as I'll be running by myself and it's a virtual race among bloggers. Like the first 5k I ran, I've been pushing myself, training harder, running more. Each time I want to back out of a run (because I live in Texas and it's hella hot here), I think of the reason I've slowly fallen in love with running. Today's oh hey! Friday is all about running..

{ONE}
I'm losing weight. For me, that's gotta be the best part of running. It's not falling off but 4 pounds in one month is something to proud of. I'm focusing on eating better and giving my body the fuel it needs to handle running, especially when it's 98 degrees with 70% humidity. #texasyousuck

{TWO}
It's free. There is no cost associated with running. I get that they are races, backpacks, special shoes and all that, that can cost and add up. But as a novice runner, it's free. I just pack up CJ in the stroller and hit the pavement. Once I know what I'm capable of, I will be investing in my hobby of running. Because like all hobbies, there is a price to pay to be better and even the best.

{THREE}
My body is stronger. After completing a run, I'm tired but it's a tired that has some energy associated with it. And after a quick shower, I feel refresh and ready to tackle the day. Along with this physical strength, I am mentally more with it. Shortly after running, I discovered that I no longer suffered from pregnancy brain - no this doesn't go away just because your son is closing in on 2 years old.

{FOUR}
The sky is the limit. Whether you run 5ks, half marathons or the whole kit and kaboodle, a full marathon, you are the one who decides your limitations. At the end of this year, I will have completed 2 5k races and one 5 mile race. What's my goal next year? Simply do more than I did this year.

{FIVE}
Kayla shared this on her blog yesterday, which is what prompted today's post.
Run by my side, live in my heartbeat...
give strength to my steps.
As the cold surrounds me, as the wind pushes me,
I know You surround me.
As the sun warms me, as the rain cleanses me...
I know You are touching me, challenging me, loving me,
and so I give You this run.
Thank you for matching my stride...Amen

Life is more than a race. It's about the journey. So when you find yourself running, it's comforting to know that our Heavenly Father is there, not pushing me forward but matching my stride, step for step.

Happy Friday!
.:Enjoy your weekend:.

  1. this is so great! Glad you're joining the 5k and so happy you found the love of running! And you're a trooper for getting out in those crazy hot temps! I'm a whimp in the heat - the cold no problem but I pass on the heat! :)

    1. Jenny, it's hot here for so long, so often that I just had to (wo)man up and do what I could. Some days, it's impossible to get int a good run so we settled with a steady walk. But at least I'm moving.

  2. I love this so much. I'm on my own journey to weight loss (I've been documenting it on the blog), and I need to take up running again. And you're right sister- 4 lbs IS something to be proud of!

    So just in case you're interested- I cohost a link up on Mondays called Mama Mondays, and I would love for you to join in on the fun some time! All the details are on my blog. :)

    Have a great weekend!

    1. I can't handle that app. It drives me batty. I just run when I can and walk when I can't get myself moving.

  4. This post made me smile! So awesome all of the work you are putting in. Every choice to be active is a positive one and one choice at a time is how we reach our goals. I can't believe the virtual race is just next week! EEEKKKKK. I am supposed to run 9 miles that day. I may have to run the first 3.10 and then restart for the other 5.9 lol.

  6. Congrats to you for running and sticking to it! My husband is a runner and I've often thought how fun it would if I took up running so we could do that together. I just don't have the willpower. I'm my own worst enemy! ha ha. Maybe one day I'll decide change my habits on that. Just found your blog through the linkup and look forward to following along! I love your blog design by the way.

  11. So true, plus you can run anywhere! Just pack your shoes and off you go! My best runs where on vacation, exploring a new area is like a treasure hunt. So many things can only be seen while running! Good luck with your race!
