The Color Run - 5k Recap

In June, I ran my first 5k. I specifically choose a run that is considered more fun than a serious must finish as quickly as humanly possible run. Having never ran a 5k, I figured The Color Run would be a great first race. The Color Run was founded in March of 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness by bringing the community together to participate in the “Happiest 5k on the Planet”. The best part of choosing The Color Run as my first run is that there are no winners or official times, The Color Run caters to everyone.

A handful of the ladies in my Mom group registered for the run. The above photo is of Breann and I. On the left, we just got to the event and the right, we had spent an hour or so in the color pit getting covered in color so we would glow during the race.

The Color Run is 3.14 miles and ran in the dark with glow lights being the only source of light. We got lucky and the weather wasn't too awfully hot so that helped Breann and I both since this was our first run. We set a goal of finishing in under 47 minutes. For first time "runners" this was a comfortable goal that we both that we could achieve.

On the left, you have me right before the race. I was pumped up and excited to start but always tired of waiting and just wanted to run already. The middle photo is my official (to me) time: 40:23, nearly 7 minutes quicker than I had planned. Come to find out, we had missed a portion of the greenbelt, resulting in us running only 2.85 miles. Whomp whomp! The photo on the right is us after the race, carb loading at Freddie's with a burger and loaded fries. We deserved those calories, let me tell you!

All in all, it was a fun first run that proved that all the hard work I had put into "training" - I use quotes because let's face it, I don't train like most runners - paid off.

I ran a 5k and survived to blog about it!

  3. That's awesome! Congrats! I'm so not a runner nor have I ever trained at all "like a runner" or not although I still have this dream of running the Zombie 5k in Atlanta every year. I think that is what most people like to call delusional but hey, we can all have dreams, right?

    1. DO IT! You only live once and this is a fun run! It's not timed so you are just doing it for the experience.

    1. Casual races are great first races. Not too many folks are serious and worried about times.
