A Day in the Life - Summer Edition

Our Day | August 14, 2014 - Connor 21 months

7:38 Wake up and head to the bathroom. I brush my teeth, throw my hair up, change into running clothes and put on my FitBit because I'm hoping to go for a quick jog/run before our 10AM play date. Grab my phone off the charger and head downstairs to get a few things done before Connor wakes up.

7:49 Boot up laptop and make myself breakfast (plain Greek yogurt with almonds and Go Lean! Crunch cereal). Grab my water and turn the baby monitor on. I take a seat at the kitchen table to eat breakfast while checking emails, paying a bill and added today's (Wednesday 8/14) blog post to Facebook. I check my phone to see that I have 2 texts, answer those and check Instagram, where I like far too many photos of food and babies. I'm finished with breakfast so I head upstairs to get Connor. He is still sleeping but since we have someplace to be at 10, I need to give him plenty of time to wake up and have breakfast.

8:15 It's time to wake up sleepy head. He is actually stirring a bit so I know I'm not waking him up too soon. The moment his sound machine goes off he sits up. It's like there is a string connecting the two, it's that automatic. Connor asks for his "candy" and his vitamins. He gets a Vitamin C chewable that he thinks is candy. I grab his clothes, swim trunks and shoes for the day. We head downstairs where he gets a cup of milk and chills on the couch with the news channel (sorry about that C) while I get his breakfast together.  Simon starts howling so I let him out. He stays out for .08 seconds and then I let him back in.

8:34 Diaper has been changed and every one is dressed for a quick jog. I put Connor's breakfast (a pumpkin muffin and blueberries) in a container so that he can eat while we jog. We load up in the jugging stroller and head out.

9:03 We arrive back home from our jog. Connor has finished breakfast and wants to play. However, after a 2 mile run I need to shower. I refill his cup and we head upstairs. I start the shower and he heads straight to his toy room and starts playing with his cars. I jump in the shower, get dressed throwing on an usual hot mess Mom outfit (running shorts, tshirt and flip flips) and let my hair air dry (it's really pretty let me tell ya). I tell Connor to pick up his toys, that we are going to visit Charleigh and Sully.

9:36 I throw together Connor's lunch (turkey, a cheese stick and apple cinnamon puffs), grab my two water bottles along with his book bag, lunch bag, cookies to share with our friends (which I forgot to pass out), an apple for me and we are out the door.

9:48 - 12:57 We drive 25 minutes to our morning play date. CJ's diaper needs changed so I do that and change him into a swim diaper and trunks. Connor plays with his friends while I talk with the other Moms. We play outside in the pool and yard for a bit then everyone (the kids) decide that they want to play indoors instead. Around 11:30 or so I get Connor's lunch and feed him while he plays. This is the only way I know he will eat lunch because he would rather destroy the playroom than sit and have lunch. A little after noon we pick up the mess that's been made by 6 little ones and we pack up our things and hit the road. We then drive the 25 minutes back to our house. The whole way home, Connor is fusing because I'm pushing nap time. I promise him cookies and milk before nap time. This makes him happy and me Mom of the Year.

1:00 - 1:20 The moment I get Connor out of the car, he tells me he pooped. No need for the heads up, you stink little guy. We get in the door in time for Simon to bark to be let out. I let the dog out while Connor goes to the living room to get a diaper. I change his diaper to the tune of "cookie Momma pease". Off to the kitchen we go. Connor enjoys his cookies and milk while I make lunch. We eat together and talk about the toys he played with at Sully's.

1:25 Connor has been wiped down, his teeth are brushed. I rock Connor for a few minutes and tell him 2 stories and we sing one song. He is in bed with his blanket, pacifier, with his sound machine on. It's now time for me to head downstairs and a tackle some of my to do's.

2:17 I spent close to an hour checking emails, reading/commenting on blogs and talk to Dean while she is on her way to work. I start a load of laundry, clean the kitchen up and wipe down the counters and decide we are going to have tacos for dinner. The house is scattered with toys and the dishwasher needs unloaded so it looks like I need to spend nap time cleaning. Lucky me, right?

2:53 Laundry is going and the house is in order so I hit the couch and watch last night's Big Brother.

3:23 Connor is awake from his nap so I get him from his crib, change he diaper and wash my hands. I grab him a cup of water along with his afternoon snack and we cuddle on the couch so I can finish watching Big Brother.

3:53 My show is over so it's off to run a couple errands.

4:28 We've made it back from the bank and store. Simon needs out and I notice he is low on food and water so Connor and I tackle that together. Connor starts playing with the $5.99 truck he insisted on having from CVS along with the 524 other cars he owns. After letting Simon in, it's time for me to join Connor and play with cars too. We read a couple books and he randomly stops to watch a few minute of The Disney Channel. I lounge on the floor (which needs swept badly) while Connor pushes cars and trucks up my legs.

5:40 James sent me a text, he is on his way home so now it's time to start dinner.

6:36 We finish dinner, clear off the kitchen table and stove and head outside so I can clean out my car and Connor can play with James for a bit before bath and bedtime. Turns out, my car is the moving equivalent of a trash can. It's bad. The guys head indoors to color and I head to the car wash to get the car washed and vacuum it out.

7:31 In the process of cleaning my car, I notice that Connor's car seat it disgustingly dirty. I pull off the seat cover (easier said then done FYI) and put it in the washer.

7:40 - 8:22 Connor gets his night time cup of milk while he watches some TV with us. When he drains that cup, we head up stairs for bath time. We play with Jake bubbles and his favorite rubber duckies.

8:30 - 10:20 Little guy is down for the night. This is the time that James and I get to relax and do some things around the house that we can't do with our pint sized helper. I put some packages and cards together that we need to send out tomorrow. I load the dishwasher with the dishes from dinner while James puts the car seat cover back on Connor's seat. I then reinstall his seat and sit with James to watch a bit more TV before it's time to turn in for the night.

10:33 The dog has been let out, Connor has been checked on so I can start my bed time routine of washing my face and brushing my teeth. I get in bed and set my alarm for 7:30 in hopes that Connor doesn't wake me before then. I check Facebook, Instagram and email. Check my FitBit app to see how many steps I took today.

10:50 Lights out... time for this Momma to get some much needed sleep.

It's safe to say our days are busy and sometimes really long BUT I love every minute I get to spend with our little guy!

  1. other than your day being on a different start/end time they sound really familiar! I'm super impressed that you got a run & shower in before a 10am playdate when you started at 830! I just can't seem to keep callie moving that fast! Your dog remind me of ours - bark - want out come back in 5 seconds later lol! A busy day for sure but lots of fun in there! I love these posts so thanks for sharing!

    1. Connor doesn't really poke around. He is a mover, especially if he knows he gets to see his friends.

  2. These posts are so fun. It is neat to see what is a "normal day" for others.

I love the car seat picture, it looks so familiar. Every time I bring them in the house all they want to do is sit in them.

  3. I can't even handle the fact that your child wakes at 8:15. Do you know what time we started our day? FIVE FORTY-FIVE. Send all the coffee.
Aside from that, CJ and M seem so much alike. Especially eating while playing. M's best meals are had when he's away from the table.

And, your screen saver? Ummm, in love with it.

    1. Well I can't handle your abs. Far trade, okay? ;)
He would rather play than sit so I literally follow him around and shove food in his mouth. Totally classy.

  10. Great for you for starting with a run! Your day starts almost pleasantly late. Just a wee bit earlier than my alarm goes off. I feel like sleeping in until anywhere near 8 is a win in my book. Isn't it fun when cleaning is part of nap time? So lucky! I usually try to avoid that, because I really enjoy sitting at that time. I love reading these posts! Reminds me that Aria's car seat REALLY needs to be cleaned too. Maybe tomorrow's project.

  15. I'm so jealous of the fact that Connor sleeps so late. I have to have H up by about 6:30am during the week to get ready for school/work so on the weekends we're lucky if he sleeps past 7am and I think he's slept until 8am maybe 3 times in his life.
