Summer Bucket List Week 4: Finger Paint

Week 1: Water Fun
Complete Summer Bucket List is located HERE

With a sick baby boy to entertain, I was uncertain of which Summer Bucket List task to tackle this week. On Tuesday, after Connor's nap, I thought we could do a little finger painting before taking a bath. We've been taking baths at the most random times thank to Snotty McSnotterson. Connor was pretty excited to head outdoors since he's been trapped indoors up for the last 5 days.

Connor played around with the paints for all of 2.9 seconds. He discoverd I had a paint brush (after all, he was the finger painter, not me) and thought it was be fun to use a brush instead. Okay. Have at it.

I tried to show Connor how to use the brush but he snatched it from me, hugging it and saying "mine". I tell ya, this little guy has sass. So while holding the brush, he thumb painting. For whatever reason, this was the other figure working.

"Mom? I'm bored." said Connor. Not exactly but this photo doesn't show a little human excited to be making a mess. As much as I attempted to coax CJ to get messy and have a little fun before bath time, he wasn't having it. He would walk out into the sun, run back and say "hot! hot!". Yeah, you're right little guy, it's hot. Welcome to Texas.

At one point, Connor looked over and said "teeth" as he slowly moved his hand to his face. Non toxic or not, the idea of cleaning paint from his mouth and nose wasn't something I wanted to tackle today so I told him no. Which he thought was funny. He would take his hand back and forth saying "teeth". He is a mischief maker.

Connor then found his rocks and thought he would ditch the paintbrush and paint with his rock friends instead. Okay, whatever you want. This lasted 2.5 seconds, tops.

So maybe we should use the paintbrush to paint our rocks, give them a littler personality. Since we have approximately 513 rocks, this should buy us a little time and create some fun.

Wrong.

Connor placed his rocks on his paint plate and backed up to the door and said "side". Having spent all of 6 minutes painting, it's safe to say he isn't really a fan these days.

Before heading inside to clean up, Connor sat in my lap and I snapped this photo of his sweet little hand and fingers. While the activity itself didn't interest him much, using the paintbrush and his messy fingers to touch Momma with was sure fun. If you're gonna be messy, you might as well share the mess, right?

 Happy Friday!

    1. I just don't think he was feeling it that day. Maybe another attempt would yield better results.

    1. He loves his rocks so I was a little surprised that he didn't want to play and paint with them longer. I guess it's just not meant to be. He just loves to move and run and climb too much for crafts.

  4. How sweet! Those pictures are previous, and your little one sounds like he's a handful in the best way. I hope he feels better soon.

  5. too bad he has been under the weather, and wasn't really into mess making. ours don't last very long either, so it just never seems like an option to take up much time. my original finger painting scenario was going to be outside but I couldn't get Chris to find the pool for me so I could contain it. my bet is that it would last about 6 minutes too. You got some really cute pictures though, love the big smile one and his little painted hand =)

  6. Hunter doesn't stay entertained very long with arts and crafts stuff. Maybe 5 minutes top and then he gets bored and wants to run around. Typical boys.

    1. I think I need to forget it for a little while. Maybe once he can do something a little more than just finger paints and coloring. Neither seem to entertain him long enough.

  7. Cute smile! Finger (or brush in this case) painting sounds like a lot of fun. Too bad it didn't last, but I'm sure he'd do better next time! :-) I can't wait til my daughter is old enough to actually do these kinds of things, but right now she puts everything in her mouth haha

    1. I think you're lucky with a girl. Girls love to craft and paint.

  8. He sounds like my Axle. My boy has NO interest in painting!

    1. He has little to know time for being still. He would rather climb and jump and play. You know? be a boy!

  10. Ha! This sounds about like how our attempts at painting would likely go. The last time I tried to finger paint with M he wanted nothing to do with getting his little paws clean. Maybe we'll give it a go a little later on. Like, when they're 5.

    1. I think Connor will do better when he is a littler older when he can do a craft that results in a finished project. Coloring and painting is so lame in his world.

  11. I love how he's painting with this thumb holding the brush. Super cute. The photo you snapped of him wanting to paint his teeth? He looks so grown up there! Finger paints always get used with brushes at our house. I just gave up on the finger painting part - she asks to have her hands cleaned like 5x while using a brush as it is!

    1. He is a little finicky about getting his hands messy but for whatever reason, it doesn't bother him with paints.
