Summer Bucket List Week 3: Dinner Outside

Complete Summer Bucket List can be found HERE

When I added dinner outside to our bucket list, I instantly thought " that's not going to go well". Connor is a creature of habit. He is used to eating 3 meals a day at home, in the comfort of his booster seat. So when Mister mentioned picking up dinner and heading to our neighborhood park, I figured we could give it a shot and see if Connor would eat anything or if he would be off playing within minutes of getting there. In true Connor fashion, playing took front seat to dinner.

This photo? Captures the one way he would eat. Standing up, with Daddy feeding him. He was ready to climb, swing and visit the pond, which offered no time for dinner. We were able to get him to eat a few bites before he was off to play. What can I say, he is all boy.

James and I finished dinner and then joined Connor for some evening fun. His new favorite thing it to swing with Momma. The bigger he gets the more difficult this will be but until it's impossible, baby boy and I will swing our days away together.

While swinging, C spotted the pond and yelled "duck! duck" and took off to find his feathered friends. What is it about ducks that make them so intriguing? Whenever there is a body of water, Connor instantly starts yelling for the ducks; to him they're one and the same. Lake/pond = ducks.

James brought some biscuits and potatoes from our dinner over and we feed our new friends. Funny side story: J gave Connor a potato wedge to give the ducks. He threw it (not far) and then picked it up and ate it. We cracked up laughing. Not the ideal way to eat dinner but hey! whatever works little man.

While our dinner outside turned to more play and less eating, we had a fun evening together as a family. Watching Connor discover and learn is something I will never get tired of. Discovering and seeing life through your little ones eyes is the best.

Happy 4th of July!
Enjoy your weekend!

  1. We always struggle to get meals in when there's something to play with nearby. I love that he picked up the potato wedge and at it!

    1. Any meal not at our dining room table is horrible.

  3. This is exactly why we broke down and got a little booster seat to keep in the car! Whenever we would be at a friend's for dinner it was the biggest hassle to get Aria to eat a thing. Esp great when we were up visiting family in PA. I'm not sure we've ever attempted something like this though, our last picnic I'm not sure Aria was even crawling yet. My bet is Aria would play more than eat too, but that is fun every blue moon anyway! And, I totally wish Aria would swing with me, she prefers solo! So cute you two =)

    1. What a good idea. I should get one and just have it on hand when needed.

  4. That is so sweet! Threw it for the duck and then was like wait, I want that!
Mason is so distracted whenever we eat outside as well. Just so much to do that they don't want to sit and eat. I have this great idea planned for a dinner outside too, we will see if it happens!

    1. Good luck. If Connor is hungry, he will tell us. He has discovered the word "hungee" and ain't afraid to use it.

  5. I so feel you about dinner distractions! Well actually just about dinner in general - Callie doesn't want to sit still for any meals these days! I'm hoping it's just a phase because we've always eaten most of our meals at the table. Sorry tangent. Love him chasing the ducks and "feeding" them/him! Mommy and C swing time - adorable. I'll have to try that next park trip!

  6. I feel like that's how we eat all of our meals… Chasing the little man around. :)
The pic of you and CJ swinging? Heart melted.

    1. It was the highlight of my year when he wanted to swing with me. I mean... hello? You wanna somewhat cuddle Momma? Sure little man, sure.
