Goals Recap - Month 6

With half of 2014 under our belts, I'm excited to see where I stand with my goals.

.:BLOGGING:.
I'm going to be 100% honest regarding blogging. I was {this close} to calling it quits on blogging. Nothing major happened to make me what to close up shop. I'm just at a point where I'm sort of tired of blogging. After much thought, I decided that I would just cut back some, allowing me to take a much needed break while still documenting our lives and enjoying the connections I've made through blogging. Starting this month, I'll be blogging 2-3 times per week, sharing what I want rather than trying to keep Wife Mommy Me on the radar in Blogland. I've came to the conclusion: WMM won't be a hugely popular blog. I won't get rich from this space. The real focus of this blog is going to be used to create a family keepsake. Having said that, I do have some fun posts coming up that I can't wait to share with ya'll.

 .:READING:.
Last month, I tortured myself with reading Shine Shine Shine. If you haven't read it, don't. I promise I'm saving you from one of the worst books ever. While you'll find good reviews if you look, it's a hard read and I wish I hadn't had to read it for book club. Along with Shine Shine Shine, I read, reviewed and gave a copy of Chasing Hope away. Such an amazing book. Here is my thoughts on the book. If you are a Mom, get yourself a copy. I'm currently reading The Goldfinch. I've heard great things about the book and hope the reviews are a true testament to the book since it's over 700 pages! I'm at 47% of my yearly reading goal with 14 out of 30 books read.

.:CLASSES:.
A girlfriend gave me a book that focuses on the importance of exposure. I'm going to read that and apply it to my photography over the next month or so. We have a fun photo shot scheduled for the end of July so I'm hoping to use what I've learned during that session.

.:DEBT:.
The area of spending we seem to have issues with is food. Eating out dinner on the weekends and grabbing a quick lunch out while running errands. We are focusing on dining in at home and packing lunches. I'm also going to shop around for the best price on groceries. Our big local grocery seems so expensive to me so I'm hoping to find an alternative. I've also realized how easy it is to spend an extra here or there on Connor so I'm attempting to quit that. Because seriously? Dude doesn't need anymore clothes/toys/books.

.:ORGANIZATION:.
Yesterday, I dropped off 4 bags of clothes and shoes to Goodwill. Cleaning out our master closet filled 3 of those 4 bags. I can't believe how much extra we had. Like I mentioned with purchasing Connor too much clothing, I don't need anymore shoes or clothing. I mean, heck!, I'm in workout clothes 24/7. Today, I'm tackling our downstairs. Cleaning and purging cabinets, removing things that we don't need or haven't used in months. The plan is to simplify our home and get rid of the extra.

.:HEALTH/FITNESS:.
Plain and simple, I kicked ASS in June. #serious. I went to the gym 4 times each week and wait for it... ran my first 5k. More details on that later but I will say I rocked it! Additionally, I {again} gave up Diet Coke the first of June and haven't had any since. While I did drink other diet sodas here and there, I plan to cut that out of my diet completely this month. Wish me luck... I'm going to need it. Thanks to the gym workouts and lack of Diet Coke, I dropped 2.5 pounds in June. YTD I've lost 6 pounds. I would be lying if I said I was okay with that. I'm not. So I'm kicking it up a notch in July and plan to lose close to 4 pounds this month.

June was a good month. We are half way through the year and I'm holding strong on reaching my 2014 goals. I'm really going to turn up the heat and focus on making big strides in July and August.
How are you doing with your goals?

    1. From the responses I got from this post, a blogging slump is something every one goes through from time to time. Maybe it's the summer time. Maybe it's just that sometimes, I don't have anything to say. Either way... I'm going to keep this space fresh and true to me.

  2. I am SO GLAD you're not quitting bloggy land 100%. I would seriously miss you waaay too much (even though I know the texts and emails wouldn't stop)!
Confession - I read The Goldfinch a while ago and I just couldn't get into it. When you finish it I'll be interested to hear your take on it.
Lastly, SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU and your fitness goals!!! You KILLED it lady!!

    1. I would miss you and Cheeks for sure. But like I said... maybe scaling back is what I need. Re: The Goldfinch... every time I start to read it, I instantly fall asleep. That's not going to make reading nearly 800 pages easy. Thank goodness I have until August to complete it for book club.

  3. I'm definitely in a similar boat with blogging. I just don't have the motivation to do it so instead of feeling guilty I figure I will just blog if/when the mood hits or I have something I really want to blog about for memory's sake.

  4. I'm so glad you haven't quit blogging! I've enjoyed getting to "know" you better since we "met" a few months ago. I love reading about your sweet adventures with Connor but totally understand what you're saying. I've been so overwhelmed with my real job stuff and my life that I've thought about cutting back some too, but I just enjoy it too much. GREAT JOB on your health and fitness goals! YOU ROCK!

    1. I couldn't imagine having a real job, a child and a blog. Something would have to be pushed to the side and you know it wouldn't be my child or money..

  5. I feel you with blogging... I haven't decided what I want to do yet but I've been struggling the last few weeks (maybe month). Thanks for being honest about it. You did so awesome at your fitness goals love it! Actually you do a great job at documenting your goals period. oh and budgeting. I started tracking meals out seperatky a long time ago and that helped us cut back by seeing it seperate from the grocery budget.

  7. It's refreshing to read your take on blogging. I feel EXACTLY the same way. While it is fun to read comments, my blog is our family journal of sorts. That is why I started it and that is why I treasure having my little corner of the internet so much! I print my blog once a year so that we have a hard copy as well :)

    1. Where do you print your blog? I've thought about that and honestly, if I had a hard copy, I wouldn't feel so bad about walking away one day from blogging completely. Can you email details? sacox65@gmail.com

  8. Stopping over from Courtney's blog:) I'm with you on blogging, sometimes I just go MIA and I'm just not into it. But over the past three years I've always managed to come back! I just like having something to look back on as I document our day to day lives.

Hope you and your family have a Happy 4th of July!

    1. I feel bad sometimes if I go MIA like I'm not documenting enough but I think blogging 2-3 times a week is more than enough, really!
Happy 4th to you and your family as well!

  9. Congratulations on your first 5k, great job!!! Did you get the running bug?? :)

    1. I don't think I have the running bug some folks have. I like the challenge of seeing if I can get a little quicker with my time. I think if anything... I may run a half one day but never would I ever dream of running a full. No way. I think I would die. Seriously.
