This & That

Happy Friday!
This week? WAS AWESOME. The boys and I have conquered Cedar Fever and our home is finally healthy. Can I get an amen? For the first time this year, we have had a week that was germ free and it's amazing how much better everyone is feeling. I think it's safe to say that we are ready to kick it up a notch and get this year going.

Tomorrow, I'm attending my first ever blogger social. To say I'm excited is an understatement but as much as I'm looking forward to meeting bloggers I enjoy reading daily, I would be lying if I didn't say I'm a bit nervous. Moments like this when I've planned to put myself in a room with people I don't know makes me wonder what has came over me. Maybe it's the move to Texas but all I know is that I'm going outside my shy box and I'm loving it.

Part of the reason I think I've been feeling good about getting out and mingling is because I've really been focusing on my health and fitness this month. I am well aware that's it only the 7th but seriously, I've been working out (4 times this week) and I completely cut soda from my diet and I've been making smarter, healthier choices at meal and snack time. Yes, snack time. Momma gets hungry. I've also decided to look at my weight loss and fitness level as a long term commitment instead of getting peeved when I don't see the results I want right away.

Speaking of long term plans, I'm putting together a 12 step health program for myself this year. While at the YMCA on Wednesday, my friend Melissa jokingly said that losing weight was like a 12 step program. Once I got home, the thought stuck with me and I decided that over the next year, I'm going to make 12 unique decisions that will help impact my health in positive ways. January, I gave up Diet Coke and this month, I gave up all soda (Sprite) and starting working out 3-4 times a week. March, I plan to cut out sweets. No chocolate, ice cream, cakes or candy. I may die in the process but oh well, my hips and ass will thank me! I also want to start watching my calorie intake, keeping it around a certain number. However, I'm loathe counting calories so I'm hoping that I can reach my goals without doing so. The goal is to carry each month's step over so ideally, after March, I won't be drinking any soda or eating sweets but will be working out 3-4 times a week and monitoring my calories. How likely is that to happen? Who knows? But I have to try.

Along the lines of fitness, I'm compiling a list of 75 songs to listen to while using the cardio machines and need some suggestions. Often times, I can take a class or have friends to workout with but every once in a while, I get stuck working out strictly on the elliptical and treadmill and I need some good tunes to keep me moving.

Right now Texas is enjoying winter but the high temperatures are just around the corner. The summers are miserable here and I've been thinking of things to do that will allow C to be active but keep me from melting. After some research and talking to Desiree who enjoys Gymboree with my man Cheeks, we've decided to enroll Connor in Gymboree as well. It's a bit pricey, however, I think the benefits outweigh the cost. Also, he will only be going for a few months - May through August because...

Connor is going to preschool in September. Again, after researching local schools and talking with friends, we've decided to enroll Connor in the preschool at our church here in Round Rock. He will be just shy of 23 months when he starts and I think being preschool will do wonders for C. The reasons we decided to enroll him are numerous but it boils down to us wanting Connor to experience preschool, learning to share and play with others in a structured environment and for him to be given tools to help him learn a little more than what I'm capable of teaching him at home. He will only be going Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-2. This time away will do Connor and I both some good. He is very attached to me and I want him to have relationships with other adults and children without me being there with him.

And lastly, my Mom is coming to visit on the 19th and I'm so excited for her to get here! When she is here, we are going to get Connor's hair cut for the first time. It's way overdue but I wanted my Mom to be here for a first so we are dealing with his crazy hair until she arrives. I have lots planned for her visit but mostly, I can't wait to see her and Connor play together. He has learned some new tricks since seeing her at Christmas so I know he will want to show off.
I hope ya'll have a great weekend!

  2. Girl, I have to say that I've been wondering what in the world you were doing with that boy's hair for awhile now. (Sorry, haha) I think the 12 step program is a great way to achieve health and fitness goals. I kinda am doing the same thing, hoping to incorporate new things each month to help keep me motivated. I am trying really, really hard not to get swept up in immediate results but it's been really, really hard. I think I'm going to go next week and see about joining our Y, do share your playlist when you get it together, K?

By the way, I love you and I'm so glad that I get to stay updated with your life through blog-form. It makes me feel connected in a way that I'm sure only you could understand.

  5. I think Connor will do great at preschool, I definitely think having Hunter in daycare/preschool has taught him so much. He's now in the preschool 1A class so he's learning more school type stuff vs. just having him play and them watching him. He loves it.

And good for you for cutting out soda. I've cut back a lot but still typically have one diet coke a day. Bad habit I know.

  10. I love this post! First, I can't wait to hear how you like your first blogger meetup, I'd love to find one for myself to go to, how did you find it? Second, are you working out at the gym and leaving Connor at the daycare? I want to start working out more often too and tried taking a class and leaving Miss A in the daycare, and she FREAKED out and cried the whole time. Broke my heart. Lastly, yay for preschool! I need to start looking into that as well , she'll be two in the summer and could start in the fall like Connor. Thanks for always inspiring me Stephanie :)
