So What! Wednesday

Today is the day our family has been waiting for all month long. Mammaw (AKA my Mom) arrives to spend a week with us. In preparation for her arrival, we've been busy cleaning the house and getting things in order so that she is comfortable and feels at home here.

So what! if I think cleaning like we have been is for the damn birds?
I mean, really? There are a few things that I should make sure are in order: her room, her bathroom and that we have food and coffee for her.

So why did I clean our bedroom closet?
Why did I dust, sweep and mop the laundry room?
It's safe to say that our house is the cleanest it's been in months. But is all this hard work all that necessary? I don't think so. My Mom is far too excited to spend her days lovin' up on CJ Frankenstein to notice that how spic and span our refrigerator is.

So what! if I'm so tired from cleaning like a madwomen. It will be all worth it when I pick my sweet Momma up from the ABIA this afternoon.

Are you like me? Do you clean like crazy before visitors?
Or am I the only one who suffers from such OCD?

  1. Sure did! Everytime my mom came to visit I would clean for days! Well, I gave up that "ghost" a couple of years ago. Now, I just do the basics (her guest room & bathroom). More important to enjoy the time together! ;)

  2. I have cleaned for so many years of my life that I do the basics. When I go to someone's house I expect the bathroom to be clean, clean sheets, clean guest room, clean kitchen and the house picked up. I don't care if there are some stacks of clutter or some light dust. Life is too too short and right when your guest arrives the house just gets messy. Right?????

  3. I do the same when my mom visits. I think it's because I know she can spot the tiniest piece of dust, lol.

  4. It's the only time my place ever gets a thorough clean (all the corners!) so I use it as a bit of motivation every few months :L

  6. Hahaha--no you're not alone! I think although unnecessary, it's a great motivator to get things in order and totally human to want to put out the best version of ourselves...especially for your mom! Have a great visit!!

  8. YAY for your mom coming!!! I clean like a mad woman all the time. I have such OCD about it!!! But when my mom comes she usually wants to do stuff for me. Last time she washed and folded more than 4 loads of laundry, washed every dish used during the 10 days she was here, and vacuumed more than once! She gets busy when I'm putting P down or changing his diaper or something! Can't say I mind :)

My parents are coming on Friday and we have a house guest here now leaving on Thursday. My mom told me to leave the bed and she'd wash she sheets when she gets here! No mom, I am going to have that done for you, trust me! Haha!

I hope you have a fabulous visit with your mom!!

  9. I'm the same way. I clean every room in the house before we get any visitors! I don't know what comes over me, I get it from my mom and instantly go into action.

  11. I used to clean like crazy before people arrived, but then it usually left me frustrated because then I would have another mess to clean up after they left and it would seem worthless. We keep it real around here now, I may pick-up some before people arrive, but in no way am I going all out. I have better things to do.

  12. Yay for mom's visiting!!
I had every intention of getting our place spotless before the arrival of Grandma, but it never happened. I mean, she has clean sheets and fresh towels. But, the rest of my house looks like it always does. Good thing Grandma doesn't care. :)
