Goals Recap - Month 1

In December, I sat down and wrote out goals and achievements I wanted to reach and tackle in 2014. You can find the detailed list here. Each month, I will share my progress and what has helped or hindered me from reaching my goals.

In January, I sponsored 2 fellow Texan bloggers along with focused on providing quality content on WMM. I feel that being a sponsor was hit and miss. While one blogger did a lot to help promote me, the other left me wondering why I gave them our hard earned money for little to no help with growing my blog. Lesson learned, I guess. I do think some of the topics I discussed this month gave readers a more personal glimpse of who I am. I've also connected with other bloggers in real life (more on that later) and will be attending a blogger meetup in Waco on the 8th.

My goal is to read 30 books this year. As of today, I read 3 books in January.
The Fault in Our Stars
Descending Son
Me Before You

This month I am aiming to read an additional 3 books. Having read 3 books in January has put me 1 book ahead of schedule to reach my goal of 30 books.

On Saturday, I attended a 3 hours photography workshop. I can't even begin to tell you how much I learned from just one class with Texas Photo Workshops. Our instructor, Kevin who has over 30 years of experience, was amazing and had the ability to break down the most complicated terms so that those of us who are newbies could understand. I came straight home and used my new found techniques on Connor. I can already tell my return on invest is going to be tenfold.

We have been a strict spending freeze and I am thrilled to say that I've stuck to spending less, clipping more coupons and making smarter decisions when I'm out shopping. You know, buying based on need instead of want. Additionally, I have cut back my trips to Target. As any stay at home Mom can tell you, Target has a way of getting you to purchase things you can't imagine living without. In January, I only went to Target twice and both times stuck to my list! Next, to create a grocery budget.

Having Connor home with me makes organizing tough but I was able to accomplish 2 tasks this week. First, I spent an afternoon cleaning our our pantry and organizing each shelf and getting rid of junk food that we don't need in the house. Next, I tackled getting clothes Connor has grown out of together and passed on to a friend's little boy born mind January. In addition to those tasks, I gathered up and donated some baby items to my MOPS group for our swap meet/garage sale. It's been nice not having so much extra unused stuff around.

I wish I could tell you I came out swinging on this one but that would be a bold faced lie. 31 days in January and this girl worked out twice. Epic fail, right? I have refocused my energy and plan to kick butt this month. I did try to eat a bit healthier and that resulted in me losing a little over 2 pounds. Not bad for someone who didn't really try, you know? One thing I do want to celebrate is that I gave up Diet Coke and it's been 33 days since I had a sip. For those of who you know me, you know that's a big deal! I did drink Sprite and that needs to stop so this month, I'm focusing on water and working out.

Here is to a new month... Happy Monday!

  1. You are workin' it! I'm buying a new dslr soon and I see a few classes in my future!

  2. Dang, lady, you killed your goals!
The photog class sounds awesome. I've been meaning to get into something like that myself. Now, to find the time…
Maybe you can come to LA and help me organize all my stuff. With an inevitable move looming organization will be mandatory for a mommy that doesn't lose her crap.

  3. Great job on your goals! You will be proud to know that I only stepped foot in Target once during January and I got a prescription and a lip gloss. Yes, the lip gloss was unnecessary, but one oopsie in a whole month is SO good for me! haha! You should join the Fit Approach fitness challenge in February to get your health and fitness goal kicked off:)

  4. My daughter just read A Fault in Our Stars and loved it. :) Your doing great on your goals. Keep it up!

  5. Congrats on the soda strike! That's an awesome accomplishment. :) If you ever want to share your photography, I host a challenge on Thursdays! This Thursday we are sharing something pink.

  6. Congrats on giving up soda! I did that last year and now I only have occasional sips of a coke when we're at Disney World or at the movies. I've found that after giving it up it really doesn't taste as great to me anymore. I'm all about the water! You're doing so great on all of your goals! I'm sure you'll kick butt in February. :-)

  7. Sounds like you are doing great on your goals! I want to read The Fault in our Stars after I finish Divergent. Funny, the same girl is in both of the movies that are coming out.

  8. I feel like you had such a successful month! I'm excited for you! I'm so proud of your for successfully giving up the Diet Coke- I was working on cutting out Coke in January and I'm almost completely free of drinking it! I know how hard that is! So many of your successes (spending freeze especially!) really encouraged me! I can't wait to hear how you own February too :) Oh, and I'm SO with you on the sponsorship- it can be a total hit or miss. I sponsored three blogs last month and two of them were FANTASTIC and I'd highly recommend. The third? Not so much- but- lesson learned ;)

  9. It sounds like you are working well towards your goals! A little sip of Sprite doesn't hurt, just make sure you balance with water. It's great that overall you are making great strides and I hope that you continue to do so! Great post!

  10. WREK IT! You've done such a great job so far. Here's to the rest of the month

  11. I need to go on a spending freeze as well! I too sponsored two blogs and like you I had really great experience with one and the other didn't really communciate with me at all. Oh well, guess it was a learning experience!

  12. You are rocking your goals!! That's awesome...

And I agree about Target--I spend too much money (and time) there. I have to avoid it whenever I'm trying to spend less.

  13. awesome job on your goals!!! I am looking for a photography class when we move and I can't wait to just get some tips!

Target and I have a love/hate relationship. I seriously try to only go once a month because I always buy something I don't need. It's much much easier to stick to your list (and coupon) at the reguarl grocery store in my opinion. Keep up the good work!

  14. Great job with your goals.

I'm back and forth on jumping into the blog sponsorship world.

  15. How did you like TFiOS? I wish I had your ability to hunch down and tackle goals. I am so lazy!

  16. You had a great start into 2014. Don't stress too much about the few things you didn't accomplish, focus on the many things you DID accomplish. Good luck for February!
