4.30.13 - 6 Months

Bare with me while your Momma gets a little emotional today. You are 6 months old, sweet boy! It's your half birthday. As much as the last 6 months have flown by, I can't believe you are already half a year old. Baby boy, you have been a blessing since day one. Our lives have more laughter, more love and a whole lot less sleep thanks to you. And the best part? Daddy and I wouldn't want it any other way.

You had such a big month leading up to your half birthday. You are much more mobile these days. You aren't crawling just yet, but when you are on your tummy, you move in circles and go backwards. If you are on your belly, you are moving. You really wear yourself out sometimes. You get up on all fours quite often, you just don't have the ability to move forward just yet. It won't be long now and you will be crawling all over the house. Honestly, Mommy can't wait. You also sit up so much better these days. You still need a little support, a soft padded floor helps, but you enjoy being up a little higher. It allows you to see more.

I would say that this last month was your busiest month to date. You had lots of firsts this month. You went to your first hockey game this month, although you slept through most of it. You are now big enough to swing and loved being pushed back and forth. Looks like you will be spending the summer being a very active little boy. You have started sleeping on your side and moved to your tummy. You are like your Mommy. I, too, am a belly sleeper. This is the first full month that you've had oatmeal and a veggie once a day. A full tummy makes you a happy baby. And as we know, what baby wants, baby gets.

You have been eating so well and keeping it all down. You do spit up still but I think you now more of a happy spitter. You have 4 bottles a day, 8 ounces each and a lunch of oatmeal and veggies. You have enjoyed every vegetable we've given you - peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, squash and green beans. You don't need a night time bottle anymore BECAUSE YOU SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT! Can you tell Momma's happy? You usually go down around 9-9:30 and sleep until 8-8:30. Once we start incorporating more solids into your diet and you take less bottles, I think you will sleep for longer. You require 2 naps a day. Once in the morning, for about 2 hours and another 2 hour nap in the afternoon. You get a little cranky and give a mean mug if you can't nap.

Connor, we love and cherish every moment with you! We can't wait to see what the next 6 months old for you. So many milestones and more firsts are coming our way and I couldn't ask for a happier, healthier babe to enjoy them with.

a PERFECT weekend

Happy Monday! Hope your weekend was fabulous! Ours was!

When James was selling me on the move to Texas, he often brought up how nice the weather was and how we would be able to spend SO MUCH time outside, all year around. So far, this has been so true. It's the end of April, we've been to the zoo once, Lake Austin twice and to 3 festivals.

This weekend was hands down the most PERFECT weekend we have had as a family of 3.
Saturday morning, we went to the Red Poppy Festival in neighboring Georgetown.

I love the town itself. There are some beautiful buildings that date back years and years. There are also some very cute and cozy looking homes, something we will be in the market for in the next year or so.

We arrived in time to see the parade (Connor's first) and then spent 2 hours walking from booth to booth. I love the crafts you can find at festivals. Connor had a blast and although we were out and about during nap time, he did so well. He was so nosy interested in what was going on, he ended up staying awake from 8:15 to 12:45 which is a long time for him these days!

Saturday evening, after dinner, we went to the school in our neighborhood and played on the swings. This was Connor's first swing experience and like a true kid, he loved it!

Sunday, we went to Bible Study and church, followed by a quick lunch so that Connor could nap. We had big plans for him Sunday afternoon so a nap was needed. We had plans to attend a cook out with my Moms group. It was the first time James would be meeting the other Moms and it was a family cookout so there were husbands, too. We had such a good time. It was such a nice way to end the weekend - good food and great conversation. I am looking forward to spending the summer with these ladies!

And because Connor loved the swings so much on Saturday, we took advantage of the swing set at Sara's house!

If this weekend was any indication, I think it's going to be a wonderful (but hot as well because it is Texas after-all) first summer in Texas. Hope ya'll had a great weekend, too!

A Easy Week

Last week we had company and in March, C and I traveled to 3 states in 2 weeks so we really needed some down time. A little breather from the go-go way of life. I took it upon myself to make this week that for us. After driving to San Antonio on Monday, I decided to spend the rest of the week doing as little as possible. And the best part? Connor was more than willing and the cooler temperatures prevented me from wanting to go outside. It's funny that 60 degree temperatures are now cold to me.

One of my favorite things to do is just take photos (shocking, I know!) of Connor being Connor. Nothing staged, just him being his almost 6 month (holy smokes? 6 months?!) old self. I love sharing them with James once he gets in at night. Not only does it allow James to see what Con was up to during the day but I know it lifts his spirits when it's been a tough day at the office. I also like being able to look back on the every day moments of day. Connor is growing so fast that it saddens me to know that he isn't always going to be a little baby forever.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from this week and I hope ya'll have a fabulous weekend!

He is just a blast!! I try to let him play a little before his bedtime bottle and bed time. He enjoyed going in circles on his bedroom floor. He is such a mover these days
We wore this boy out! He NEVER cuddles up to fall asleep these days. Mamaw must have the special touch.
Mom was shaking her socked foot at him and he loved it! He giggled and laughed for a good 20 minutes.

Something to Strive for

A few weeks ago, J asked me to sit down and write down some goals for myself and the family. It's easy to come up with short term goals (this week or month) that I'd like to accomplish but thinking of tasks that you'd like to set as goal and then complete proved to be a bit challenging for me.

I thought long and hard on what I'd like to do within the next 2 1/2 years. By 2015, we will have a 2 1/2 year old, have been in Texas for 2 years. It's crazy to think that far ahead but I was able to come up with some goals that I've set for myself and hope to stick to and complete.

Goals for the remaining months in 2013

  • Set a family budget. List what we will spend on groceries, entertainment, clothes, Stephanie’s hair appointments, birthday gifts for others, Christmas gifts for others, gifts for each other for birthdays and anniversaries
  • Locate and enroll in a school to take classes to enhance my resume
  • Pick travel dates for Connor’s birthday and Christmas
  • Pay off all debt with the exception of our cars
  • By December, organize and create Connor’s 1st year photo book
  • Organize/filter/delete photos on my computer

2014 Goals
  • Create a savings account for Connor’s education. Be it preschool, daycare, private school
  • If we are still renting, I’d like us to make a plan to be in our own home in 2015
  • Train for and complete 3 5Ks
  • Spend at least 8 hours a month volunteering in some capacity
  • Pick Connor’s preschool out
  • 1/1/2014 – start eating clean
  • Start sponsoring/advertising on my blog
  • Determine/enroll in an degree program
  • Host Thanksgiving at our home for local friends and any out of state friends/family

2015 and beyond Goals
  • Pay off our cars. If we could pay off at least 1 car before the end of 2015, that would be fabulous
  • Host 50th Birthday party for Mom in OH - December 2015
  • Plan our 5 year wedding anniversary – June 2016
  • Start saving and pick destination for T's big 40! - June 2018

So What! Wednesday

So What Wednesday

I feel like it's been FOREVER since I've hooked up with Shannon for a So What! Wednesday!

Here goes nothing!!

* I deleted 1804 photos from my laptop. I have a picture hoarding problem. I am now in remission.

* Coffee isn't that bad if you add enough creamer and sugar. I'm making an effort to like it, as it's easy and better for you than Diet Coke.

* This summer is going to be spent without makeup. After one day with makeup on, out in the sun at a festival, I am totally broke out.

* After taking my folks to the airport Monday morning, I did NOTHING. And loved every minute of it.

* James is so on board with the one and done plan that if I ever wanted a second baby, I'd have to sweet talk him a lot. Along with other things that shouldn't be mentioned on this blog.

* I started dieting again on Monday. However, the idea of working out is still foreign to me. Baby steps.

* I don't get way people follow blogs but don't comment on posts.

* I am on the fence about signing up for MOPS next year.

A "working" SAHM

With the excitement of visitors last week and all the hustle and bustle that March provided, I 'forgot' to mention that I will be starting a 3 month contract position starting this morning.

I am working for NH (again) in the Marking Department, which is totally new to me! I am helping out while a co-worker is out on maternity leave for 12 weeks. I am working very very very part time, about 2 hours a day, FROM HOME!! While the opportunity isn't going to make us rich, it is going to provide me with some experience working with a marketing team, planning and maintaining the special events for the entire company (about 17 centers total). It also allows me to add the job on my resume so I won't have such a large gap in employment on my resume, when and if I go back to work.

I am looking forward to learning how to juggle my SAHM duties along with Connor and work. I am hoping that it goes smoothly and allows me to feel more comfortable about finding something more permanent to do while still staying home with Connor.

Lots of Mom's work for home, especially in the Austin area. Any of you work from home? How do you balance home/baby and work? It's something I am really interested in doing, God willing.

Have a great Tuesday and I will let you know how my first week as a working SAHM goes!

The Girls

(this post title makes me think of boobs. Which aren't mentioned in this post. Sorry for any male readers!)

Whenever Kristin, Tracy and I get together, we always take lots of pictures. We have a yearly photo taken and it's displayed in each of our houses. We are total camera Nazis when together. I think it's safe to say that this past week was no exception.

I had a great time with my HEY LADY girls. It was so much fun showing them around our new hometown. And I am sure they enjoyed the amazing Texas weather we had.

I can't forget to mention that Connor had a COMPLETE blast with all the attention he got from his girls, including his Mamaw. Mom spoiled him rotten, treating him to a new toy and his very own Johnny Jumper.

I hope ya'll had a great week last week! A little R&R is on the agenda today and hopefully, I can catch up on your posts from last week.

When I met Annie

I can't begin to tell you how many photos have been taken of Connor since his birth. I would say it's been easily over 500 in his short five and a half months. I use my iPhone a lot and I carry a camera with me daily. Needless to say, I can't get enough of Connor and his gummy grin.

Recently I mentioned to the Mister that I would like to upgrade my camera to a DSLR camera. I know they are expensive so I had it down as something I'd like to save for and get in 2014. Little did I know that James was actually listening to me and planned to get my one for our 5 year dating/2 year wedding anniversary.

Last week, James told me he got my gift and wanted to know if I wanted it early. If you know me at all, you know I don't do well with surprises so of course I wanted it. I was totally shocked when he came home and presented me with a brand new DSLR camera.

Isn't she is beauty? Yes, she. I give every important item in my life a sex and a name. She is Annie. (Short for anniversary. And you betcha, I'm that person).

Anyway, as you can imagine I've spent lots of time with my girl. I can't believe how much I've already become so dependent on Annie to capture our family's memories. I adore her.

I've started practicing a bit with Connor. He is the best model. And I am planning on taking a photography classes at the University of Texas in June to help educate me on the basics of photography and how to use my camera.

Here are a few of my favorites I've snapped so far.

I certainly have one cute babe to practice with, right??

Any fellow photographers out there want to give me some tips?? I am open to any and all assistance! I am really excited to be able to get such good "every day" photos of our little man.

Guest Blog!

To read my Friday post, head over to Jenn's blog and check our my guest post. Jenn's on vacation with her hubby and baby boy so I decided to step in an entertain her folks for a bit. I am using the word entertain loosely. Like Kim K loosely.

And for a sneak peak of the cuteness that lies ahead at These Ripples and Waves, here is a picture of her sweet baby, Henry.

Isn't he adorable? And this picture is so amazing? If you are in the Dayton, OH area, check Jenn out for photos of your little one. She does an AMAZING job!! Clearly!

It may be quiet around these parts this week because we are having visitors from Ohio. I am thrilled to be welcoming my Momma back along with 2 of my best friends, Kristin and Tracy. Kris and T have never been to Texas before so we have lots planned for the week so that they can get a feel of life in Texas. The weather is supposed to be amazing, especially when you compare it to what Ohio weather usually is - bipolar.

To welcome them to Texas and to our home, I got each of them a welcome gift. I hope they like it!

K & T are getting monogrammed mugs with some chocolates and Momma is getting a frame that will have a pic of me and Connor it in when she receives it. Each comes with a homemade card. So much cheaper than what is in the store and more personalized for the occasion.

Ya'll have a fabulous week and I hope to stop in from time to time this week with a quick post and to check to see what your saying.

A Letter to Connor

My Dearest Baby Boy,
How is it that you are already 5 1/2 months old? It feels like we just brought you home from the hospital. Just yesterday you needed to sleep on my chest to be able to stay sleeping through the night. You have grown so very much. You have blessed Daddy and I more than you will ever ever understand.

You have the sweetest laughter. It's truly music to my ears. I could listen to it all day long. You are finding your voice and there is nothing I love hearing more than you laughing and talking. Talk and laugh away little guy.

You make each minute, hour, day, week and month so much more meaningful. I can't imagine life without you. You've given me a whole new perspective on how I should be living my life, serving our Father, providing you with a godly home. Thank you, Connor. That's just what your Momma needed.

Our world looks differently now that we see it through your eyes. I can say that you've made me a much better person. Raising you is my focus, what fuels and drives me. You are my pride and joy and I want to know that I am doing my best to create an loving environment for you. I want you to be proud of me as your Momma.

On the roughest of days, you brighten them with your sweet smile. You have to be the happiest baby. Your personality is really starting to shine through. You are fabulous, Connor. And have been since day one.

We love you Connor. Our little boy. Momma's new main man. You are the best part of our family. As you continue to grow and become your own little person, know that you couldn't ask for bigger cheerleaders than your Daddy and I.

Why I am ALWAYS on a diet

I've always been pretty honest when it comes to my weight and how I've struggled all my life trying to find the "perfect" me.

It's tough to diet these days. Especially when raising our babe. My schedule isn't set just yet so I tend to need to eat quick meals and snacks and sometimes those aren't the best foods but I try my hardest to stick to my calorie goal each day.

In the beginning of March, I weighed myself and was happy to see 157 pounds looking up at me. I was making progress. I was slowly but surly getting to my goal of 150.

That was until I went on vacation for 2 weeks. Between when I weighed in in early March and Sunday, I've gained 10 mother effin' pounds. Yes... that's right. 10 pounds. I bet you are wondering how the hell is that even possible? Trust me. It is. Unfortunately.

See there is a reason why I am ALWAYS on a diet.

I love food. The more the better. I enjoy sweets and snacks, chips, soda and ice cream. I pretty much will eat like a teenage boy if given the chance but because I don't like looking like a bowling ball, I fight my desire to bury my head in a bag of Doritos and I diet. Every day.

I can't really say it's a diet because I've been doing it for so long that it's really a way of life. It's something that I've decided to make a way of life. I want to be happy with what I see in the mirror. I want to feel good in the clothes I wear. Even more important, I want Connor to have parents who are an example of health and happiness.

Not only it is important to watch what I put in my body, it's just as important for me to stay active. I take walks with Connor 3-4 times a week and I try to take a solo walk/run once a week. I have set a goal that once I get 150, I am going to start taking a cardio class. Be it Zumba, Jazzercise or something offered at the Y here in Round Rock, I am going to celebrate hitting goal by kicking it up a notch and taking a class.

I am now regretting the month of laziness and poor decisions. I am now working AGAIN to get back to 157 and then slowly down to 150. This is a sick cycle and I need to break it. I will not give in again. I can do this. I'm worth more than the bad feeling I have when I spend a week or two or even a  whole month letting loose.

I wish I could honestly say the number looking back at me from the scale isn't important but that would be a lie. I need to remember that the number on the scale doesn't define me. I'm more than that. I'm a wife, mother, friend, sister, daughter, aunt. I might not be the smallest girl in the room but I'm me. I'm someone you can count on, someone that will have your back, someone that loves her husband and child fiercely and is by far the best daughter and aunt anyone could ask for. I want to be comfortable in my own skin. I want to love me.

I'm starting AGAIN today. Maybe it will stick. Maybe I will truly understand I'm worth more. I want to feel strong, healthy, whole. Not sluggish, bloated and tired.

Here is my starting point:
Down 7 lbs? See what not eating junk food and drinking Coke can do for me?
And when I want to give up, I won't. I will keep thinking again and again... if I give up today, I will regret it 3 months down the road when I could be 5, 10, 15 pounds lighter.

Happy Friday folks!

C's First Easter

Connor's first Easter was spent in an nontraditional way this year. AT THE BEACH! We traveled, again!, to South Carolina for my brother-in-laws wedding. And because I couldn't let Connor miss getting his first Easter basket, we packed it up and took us with it.

Have you ever seen a cuter bunny? He loved the ears, which surprised me! I was worried he would freak out but he didn't.

What did the Easter Bunny bring Connor is his sweet little ducky Easter basket?
  • NUK pacifiers for 6-12 months
  • A tabletop toy that promotes hand/eye coordination
  • Veggie Tales Easter Carol DVD
  • Very First Easter paperback book
I hope each of you had a great Easter!

So What! Wednesday

 So What Wednesday
It's Wednesday!! Which means I get to say So What! to a few things...

* I've lost all desire to eat healthy or exercise. Something needs to give.
* Nothing pisses me off more than when my favorite shows take a 2-3 week break. Seriously? I need their manufactured drama in my life on a weekly basis.
* Mom, Kristin and Tracy are coming to visit next week and I can hardly wait. I am so excited to have my Mom here ALONG with some of my favorite HEY LADIES.
* The only way I will ever be a Mom again is if we adopt. And HE is 3 years or older.
* Connor slept 10-12 hours each night while on vacation. Now? We are lucky to get 8.
* Good customer service never goes out of style. Some "professionals" need to keep this in mind.
* 3 Diet Cokes in one day was a huge mistake. I was up until 3 a.m.
* MOPS hasn't lived up to my expectations.

Remember to link-up with Shannon over at Life After I Dew for this week's installment of SWW!

Seriously? That's what you are thinking right? Well, let me explain...

Remember when my little piece of internet Heaven was referred to as Creating Mrs. Cox? Well that got changed because I become a wife, conquered that role and decided to move onto motherhood (all before celebrating my 1st wedding anniversary - I'm such a bad-ass).

Next came And Baby Makes 10 Blog. 2 adults, a baby, 4 dogs and 3 cats made up the Cox household in 2012. However, before giving birth to Connor and moving to Texas, we adopted out 3 of those animals, losing 1 dog and 2 cats. So, really, we haven't been a family of 10 for 5+ months.

I got to thinking that the name of my blog wasn't really us anymore. I needed to switch it up. 100% of this blog has been my written word.

And what am I? I'm a wife. A mommy. And most importantly, I'm ME! Which can sometimes be lost in the wife and mommy part of my life.

So.. starting today... this is a place of me to be all 3 of those people. No street jacket needed. Well, not yet.

Notice anything different?? If not then, shit on you! Kidding, kind of. There were a few changes that happened while you were sleeping.

And Baby Makes 10 Blog got (yet another) new name - WIFE MOMMY ME.

Which means... I own my dot com! Exciting, right?

My blog's new address is http://www.wifemommyme.com/. Since it takes time for this new address to be available all over the Internet, you can still get to it at http://andbabymakes10blog.blogspot.com.

The new address should work for everyone after at most 3 days. At that time, Google will redirect my readers from my old address to the new one.

I also made cosmetic changes to the blog. I really want a blog designer to work on Wife Mommy Me but until I'm ready to fork out the Benjamins, I figured what I have will do.

3.30.13 - 5 Months

Can you believe you are 5 months old already? The time has really flown. You are changing and growing so much, your personality is started to show and I couldn't love this time with you any more.

This month you have really starting exploring while on your tummy. You will turn yourself in circles reaching for toys and looking around. I love when you stop playing to look up at Daddy or I to make sure we are still there watching you. Of course we are; we are your number 1 fans!

This month you discovered your love of oatmeal. We give it to you at least once a day, usually before your afternoon nap. Your belly gets full and you will sleep a good 2-3 hours. You are still eating pretty well and you have been keeping more and more of your bottle down. I'm happy to say that thanks to the oatmeal and full belly, you are slowly gaining weight and starting to have some chubby legs and arms. Which I love. You are now up to 15.6 pounds!

You and I took a road trip to Oklahoma to visit with Aunt Dean and Macie and you DID AN AMAZING JOB in your car seat. I've realized that you have to your blanket with you while in your car seat. You will cuddle up with it and sleep, sleep, sleep. Which obviously makes for a great car ride. Thanks for being patient with us while we figured this out. Now, you are a true road warrior.

Unfortunately, you got sick this month. A nasty virus that caused you to have a high temperature, a couple of throw up episodes and the need to cuddle while sleeping. It was a rough couple of days but the virus passed and you were back to our happy baby boy within days. Let's hope we can have a illness free home from here or out.

I keep saying how lucky we are to have you as our sweet baby boy. It's the truth. You are always so happy, giving smiles to everyone. You are one friendly babe.

We love you oh so much Con.
