Fa La La

In a short 6 months, we will be celebrating Christmas. Yes, that's right CHRISTMAS! And that can only tell you one thing: I'm one of THOSE people. The ones that take the holiday and make a month long occasion (starting on Black Friday). I love the holidays and knowing that in 6 months, we will be celebrating Connor's very first Christmas, I am all the more excited. In preparation of Christmas, I have planned some new family traditions I hope to start this year.

(Warning: this isn't for you Christmas hatin' folks. Although, the fact that you exist blows my mind.)

I want to kick off the holidays by putting up our Christmas tree on Black Friday, while listening to Christmas music. Nothing gets my holiday juices flowing like having our tree up, rocking out to some "Jingle Bells" and "Frosty The Snowman".

I want to give Connor an ornament each year until he leaves home. I want this ornament to mirror his personality, an accomplishment he achieved during the year or something that simply reflects our love for our little one. I want to present this ornament to Connor on December 1, as we count down the days to Christmas Day. Once Connor decides to start his own life, in his own home, I want to be able to present him with each ornament so that he can carry a little piece of his childhood Christmases with him when he goes.

On Christmas Eve, I am going to present James and Connor with a gift to be worn on Christmas morning. Yes, you guessed it: CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS! I can't wait to take a family photo with our Christmas Day pj's on!

This past year everyone was in obsessed with Elf on the Shelf. I never really jumped on board for this but I plan to be a Elf on the Shelf Mom this year, starting on Black Friday. And I have the perfect name for him: Kringle! I am going to document each day (33) that Kringle is here to play. (Enjoy those posts, ladies).

My next tradition is that I want to bake Santa cookies so that when he stops at our home, he can have a little snack. I mean, he has to be hungry from all the work he does, right?! Along with these cookies, I want Santa to leave a note to Connor, letting him know he really has been watching and Mom hasn't been making up the fact that Santa know if he has been naughty or nice. In the beginning, James and I will be doing the writing, but I look forward to sharing these letters with Connor once he is old enough to understand the tradition.

Lastly, I'd love to spend a snowy day wrapping gifts and watching some of my favorite Christmas movies. A few I love are A Charlie Brown Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

So there are my new Christmas traditions I plan to incorporate into our holiday season this year. As I get the hang of being a Momma, I will find more fun, interesting ways to celebrate the holidays! Do you have holiday traditions you've started with your families or ones that you grew up with?

  2. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love all of the decorating and the lights and the cookies and I can't wait to begin family traditions! My baby girl got a Baby's First Christmas ornament last year from Things Remembered and we got it engraved for her. I'd like to buy her an ornament each year as well but eventually I'd like for her to start picking out her own ornament!

    1. I used to work for Things Remembered and I considered getting the simple picture ornament that I could put a recent photo of him and then he could see how much he changed throughout the years.
